As part of our search, we decided that it would be useful to know what’s most important to each couple and what they’re looking for in the new space. The one requirement that is the same for all of us is that the place must be affordable. Our budget limit is approximately $1 million, or $350,000 per couple. Beyond budgetary constraints, we all have slightly different needs and wants, so, here are our…(drum roll, please) Top 5 Lists!

Top 5:
- We need good light and high ceilings. Doesn’t have to be northern light or even direct light; skylights are good.
- We want to use eco-friendly / sustainable / energy-efficient building elements in the renovation or new building. If we build a new building or an addition, we’d like to explore using pre-fab elements in the construction because of their economy of material and potential energy and cost savings.
- Minimum interior space of 2BR plus an office/studio area. We probably have smaller studio space requirements than everyone else, but we need a room of at least 120 sf for Michael’s studio/office/man cave. In the future, Allison may need a studio space of about 200-300 sf for an architecture studio.
- Outdoor space: garden, courtyard or rooftop deck for the chickens Allison desperately wants.
- It’s important for us to live in a creative, supportive environment. Our hope is that sharing a building with friends who have similar creative lifestyles will help all of us achieve our individual and common goals. Similarly, we love living in Red Hook because it’s a vibrant, creative neighborhood that we want to continue to be a part of.

Randy + Ruzanna
Randy and Ruzanna are both a photography team and run a production company
They met at A and I Photo Lab in Los Angeles, Ca. when film was king
They moved to Red Hook in mid-2007
They are the proud owners of Roman and Roger
Top 5:
- Eco-Friendly – building materials, appliances, utilities, low environmental impact, etc. Since Red Hook is such a creative and evolving area, we would like to contribute something valuable to the neighborhood and community.
- Esthetically pleasing, design-orientated building (in case we decide to build a new one).
- High ceilings, and floor to ceiling glass windows at least on one side. (More ambient light equals less electricity used).
- Rooftop Garden
- Affordable
