    From the beginning

    We are six friends (three couples) and neighbors who recently decided to pool our resources to buy a place for us all to live and work. Not a commune, not exactly co-housing, sort-of a co-op…as you can see we haven’t quite figured out what to call it , but the gist of it is an artist’s compound where we can all live and work and relax.

    Who are we:

    • Michael +  Allison - Artist/Student/Writer/Maker of Things and Architect
    • Randy +  Ruzanna - Photographers/Producers
    • John + Katrina - Artist /Professor and Artist/Jeweler
    • we are all mid-career arts professionals
    • we all live in the same rental building in Red Hook, Brooklyn
    • we all have dogs.

    The idea seemed to happen organically. John and Katrina were looking around the neighborhood for places, but were discouraged by what they saw. Randy and Ruzanna had started to do the same thing.  Allison and Michael bought a cabin in the Catskills several years ago because they couldn’t afford anything in the city (crazy, isn’t it?), but recently decided to sell the cabin to simplify their lives. One day, Ruzanna said:

    “Why don’t we go in on a place together?”  

    Why not, indeed?

    That was a few weeks ago, and we’ve already contacted a realtor and seen several properties.

    We are really excited about  our plans and will document our process, research, and thoughts along the way.  Maybe it will be interesting to others as well.
